Experience

While in college I worked on campus in the Child Development Lab.  After graduation I worked with teenagers who were in custody of the state in a residential setting.  I was a teacher's assistant as well as working and transporting juvenile females to counseling and court appearances.

Before finishing my masters degree I worked at a mental health agency as a critical care case manager.  I worked predominantly with children in foster care or those that were receiving disability.  These children were a population that needed assistance with coping skills, social skills, and anger management.

In the fall of 2009 I moved back to East Tennessee and have loved being a part of the Piedmont family ever since!

Bio

My name is Melissa Dittmer, but here at Piedmont I am known as "Ms. D".

Even though I was not born here in East Tennessee I have lived here since I was three years old.  I have a sister who is a school teacher in Medina, Ohio.  She has the privilege of being the mother of my niece and nephew.  My nephew is 10 and in the 4th grade, my niece is 7 and is in the first grade.

I have 4 wonderful parents.  My mother and step-father live in Knox County and my father and step-mother live in North Carolina.

I also have 5 others who call me "Aunt Lissa".  They belong to my cousins but I will always be their aunt.  The oldest is 15 and in 10th grade this year in Knox County.  She has 2 sisters that are twins and are in 4th grade also in Knox county, they have a little brother who is in 2nd grade.  My other cousin has a son who will be in 5th grade in Knox county as well.
